Searching for the right document can become a lengthy undertaking. As an in-house search engine, searchit makes it possible to search large volumes of data in all connected sources within seconds. “Companies of every size are confronted with a growing flood of data and therefore also with the challenge of managing it. By developing new features and providing regular updates, we ensure that our customers benefit from automated processes and the time saved when searching.” ## Everything in view: new gallery view and thumbnails in the results display In the new release 3.0, the enterprise search software searchit makes searching photos and graphics even more visual. The special searches now offer a module for a responsive gallery view in which files stored in a native image format are displayed as thumbnails and can be filtered by the different image formats. The attractive and compact display provides an optimal overview of the available image material. The results display of the document search has also been improved in the current release through the integration of preview images. This function allows users to get a visual preview of the search results instead of generic icons. For desktop users, the thumbnail is additionally enlarged on mouse-over. “This makes identifying relevant content enormously easier,” says Wendl. “Users with a penchant for visual representations of documents will also like the option of having all search results displayed as images via the view menu.” ## Automatic search suggestions for more relevant search results In the new release, searchit's search functionality scores with two extensions for more relevant search results: While you type, auto-completion offers various search term suggestions – ranked by relevance and similar spelling. Especially with longer search terms, this not only saves time but can also avoid possible typing errors. Automatic search suggestions can, however, also be found in searchit's newly implemented “Did you mean …?” function. If no documents are found for the search query, the software suggests similar terms that promise more success and lead to more relevant search results. ## More accessibility through text-to-speech To make using search engines easier for people with visual impairments, the searchit web interface now also supports the ReadSpeaker software. The text-to-speech tool automatically generates spoken output and makes the search functionality on the websites of searchit customers a little more accessible. ## Regular clean-up for high-performance searches Old, unused files occupy valuable storage space that could be put to better use. With the new clean-up function, the index is now cleaned once a week and freed of unnecessary ballast such as preview images of documents that are no longer linked, among other things. “This makes search faster and more performant,” explains Wendl. “After all, who wants to wait longer than necessary for the results of their search queries?” ## Targeted searching by file extension and more Numerous intuitive filters help users find the information they want via searchit's full-text search. A new filter now also allows them to search specifically for file extensions such as .exe, .pdf, .doc etc. File extensions beyond the standard selection are also available and are particularly suitable for efficient searching with this filter option. Release 3.0 brings quite a few more useful features and extensions. Among other things, searching SharePoint and Exchange has been made possible by a new O365 connector, and responsiveness on mobile devices has been improved. ## What the future holds – even more AI features for even more user-friendliness Work on searchit's functionality is ongoing so that innovative features can be offered. “AI algorithms are already used in searchit, for example to extract topics from indexed data or to classify files by means of automated tagging,” Wendl says in conclusion about the work on future features already taking place behind the scenes. “The future will bring some extremely interesting features for searchit. We are currently working on integrating computer vision into our enterprise search software.
